Bachelor of Engineering in Printing Engineering

Its characteristics lie in the integration of traditional printing principles and modern printing technology, including digital printing technology, with its focus on a good command of modern printing technology.  

We develop students morally, intellectually, physically, and aesthetically, who systematically master the basic theories and skills, develop the capacity of processing and duplicating graphic information, and photocopying in modern printing technology,  familiarize themselves with graphic and text processing technology, and the basic methods of controlling printing quality, the testing of suitable printing materials, and cultivate practical competency and  an innovative mind, so that they will become high-level professionals of application-type for printing technology design, technological management, quality control and relevant work in printing and packaging, publishing, advertising and related industries.  

 

Bachelor of Engineering in Packaging Engineering

This program trains high-level application-oriented professionals with versatile qualities in packaging engineering for modern packaging and related industries. It integrates packaging engineering design with art design, packaging container production with printing technology, and packaging technology with supply chain management, emphasizing the practical application in packaging and engineering.

We develop students morally, intellectually, physically, and aesthetically, who systematically master the basic theories and skills in packaging engineering,develop the capacity ofpackaging structure and decoration design, packaging printing, and post printing processing, especially acquiringpractical application skills and an innovative spirit, and a great adaptability so that they will become application- oriented high-level professionals engaged in packaging design for commercial packaging design, packaging printing,  post-printing processing, quality inspection, and technological management for production and circulation industries, packaging and printing enterprises, research institutions, international trade business and commercial quarantine sectors.

 

Bachelor of Engineering in Polymer Material and Engineering 

This program trains high-level application-oriented professionals with versatility in polymer material and engineering and an innovative spirit in practical application. It integrates polymer material with modern printing and packaging technology, emphasizing the ability to develop and apply printing and packaging materials.  

We develop students morally, intellectually, physically, and aesthetically who systematically master the basic theories and skills in polymer material and engineering, familiarize themselves with the basic principles and methods of polymer material manufacturing and formulating technology, understand printing and packaging technology, and develop a strong capacity and innovative spirit for practical application so that they will become high-level application-oriented professionals engaged in scientific research, technological development, production and business management, etc. for the printing and packaging polymer material industries and other polymer material-related industries.

 

Bachelor of Engineering in Digital Printing 

This program trains high-level application-oriented professionals with comprehensive qualities in digital printing, digital information processing, cross-media information reproduction, and communication for printing, publishing, and related industries. It takes as its unique characteristics digital printing technology, graphic and text processing, print reproduction, and cross-media information communication, emphasizing the cultivation of the capabilities of digital printing technology application, graphic and text processing, and the development of digital printing products.  

We develop students morally, intellectually, physically, and aesthetically who systematically master the basic theories and skills in digital printing, develop the capability of digital printing, digital information processing, and cross-media communication, familiarize themselves with the basic methods of operative technology for graphic information processing, digital printing technology, digital printing craft and design, print matter, and quality testing and control, equip themselves with the fundamental techniques in digital information arithmetic calculation planning and programming, and acquire strong practical skills and an innovative spirit so that they will become high-level application-oriented professionals engaged in digital printing technology, art management and quality control, the development of digital print products, cross-media information processing and communication, and related industries.

 

Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and Automation

This program trains high-level application-oriented professionals who develop comprehensive qualities and a innovative spirit in mechanical engineering and automation for modern social and economic development. Its unique characteristics lie in mechanical design and manufacturing for printing and packaging, emphasizing applied capacity. 

We develop students morally, intellectually, physically, and aesthetically who systematically master the basic theories and skills in mechanical design manufacturing and automation control, and develop the basic capacities of mechanical design, manufacturing, production organizational management, and equipment management so that they can engage in mechanical design, manufacturing, scientific and technological development, equipment management, marketing, and related work.

Bachelor¡¯s Degree in Industrial Design 

This program trains high-level application-oriented professionals who cultivate comprehensive qualities and an innovative spirit for the modern industrial design industry to meet the need of modern economic and social development. Its unique characteristics are the integration of science and technology with culture and art, emphasizing the integrated design of various product formalities. 

We develop students morally, intellectually, physically, and aesthetically who systematically master the basic theory and knowledge in industrial design, develop the capacity of research and development in product design formalities, familiarize themselves with both modern science and technology and cultivate artistic cultivation and marketing concepts so that they can engage in industrial product formality design, visual conveyance design, environmental design, teaching, research, and related work in relevant enterprises and institutions, professional design industries, education and research sectors.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Technology 

This program trains high-level application-oriented professionals who cultivate comprehensive qualities and an innovative spirit in computer science and technology in the orientation of computer engineering and information technology for modern economic and social development. Its unique characteristics lie in its integration with the publishing industry, and  emphasizing the research and developing capacity of network-applied technology and software technology.  

We develop students morally, intellectually, physically, and aesthetically who acquire the solid theoretical foundation and good scientific qualities in computer science and technology, receiving basic training as engineers, accumulating broad knowledge and a strong capacity of maintainable development, and familiarizing themselves with the basic principles of application of computer technology for the publishing industry, mastering basic skills in analyzing and developing computer applied systems, and cultivating the strong applied capacity and adaptability so that they can engage in development, design, management maintenance of computer applied systems in enterprises, institutions, technology, and administrative sectors.

Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic Information Engineering 

This program trains high-level application-oriented professionals who develop the capacity of electronic information system design for electronic information in publishing, printing, packaging, and related industries to meet the need of modern economic and social development. Its unique characteristics lie in graphic and text signal and information processing, applied technology for publishing and printing, emphasizing the cultivation of applied capacity of engineering. 

We develop students morally, intellectually, physically, and aesthetically who systematically master of the basic theories, knowledge, and skills of the electronic information system, familiarize themselves with a basic knowledge of publishing, printing, and packaging, the fundamentals of analyzing and designing electronic equipment and information systems, and cultivate themselves with a strong applied capacity and an innovative spirit so that they can engage in the development, design, and management maintenance in electronic information, telecommunications, and related industries. They can also do research and development and provide technological service for digitalization work flow process, digital printing technology, electronic publishing technology, and information processing and management.

Bachelor of Engineering for Digital Media Technology 

This program trains high-level application-oriented professionals so that they can engage in digital media development and digital communications for modern economic and social development. It focuses on its integration with publishing and related cultural industries, taking digital publishing technology as its unique characteristic and highlighting the technological development and support for network media and mobile information products. During the course of training, it emphasizes the basic theories of digital information technology as well as the practical capacity of applied engineering.

Graduate Programs

Master of Arts in Communication

This program is a key discipline of the Beijing Municipality. It focuses on communication theory and practice in the publishing industry, integrates itself with publishing business practice, and explores the new frontier of communication discipline for the purpose of training full-time M.A. students of Communication.

Its purpose is to train high-level professionals who can engage in the publishing industry, with a good mastery of the basic theories of communication and the operational laws and rules of publishing, having a deep understanding of the historical background and present situation of the publishing industry, and a theoretical analytical ability of the digital communication era. Its initial enrollment was approved in 1999, being one of the graduate programs in Communication in China. At present, there are four orientations: Communication Theory in Publishing (Book and Periodical Editing Studies), Digital Communication, Publishing Industry Studies, and Advertising Studies, with a strong faculty force of 15 full professors and 11 associate professors. 

Supported by the Beijing Municipality Research Base for the Publishing Industry and Culture (MRBPIC), the Master of Arts in Communication has the following research institutions: the Material Center for China Editing Studies, the Journal and Magazine Institute, the Digital Publishing Institute, and the Creative Economy Institute. The website sponsored by the MPBPIC, is greatly influential in its field, referred to as the Center for Publishing Communication Studies. The Experimental Center for Public Communication is equipped with a digital publishing system, an audio-video collecting system, an information processing system, and a rich source of materials in both Chinese and foreign languages.

 

Master of Arts in Design and Art (MADA)

This program is a key discipline of the Beijing Municipality. It takes as its foundation the basic theories and required professional knowledge, regards as its main research orientation the theories and practices in art and design of digital media and printing, focuses its research on multi-media art, image art, graphic printing art, and the cultural and artistic creative industry. The Master of Arts in Design and Art mainly trains high-level professionals who solidly and systematically master the basic theories and required professional knowledge in the art and design discipline, understand the present situation and developmental trends in its discipline and related industries, and proficiently apply the basic theories and fundamental skills in design and art studies. They can engage in researching, analyzing and solving practical applied problems. With its initial enrollment beginning in 2003, there are now three research orientations: Research and Application in Art and New Media Design, Research and Application in Art and Printing Design, and Theoretical Research in Art and Design. There are six professors, ten associate professors, and five faculty members with doctoral degrees or working towards doctoral degrees.

The MADA relies on the following institutions: the Research Center for Digital Media Arts, the Multimedia Art and Design Laboratory, the Digital Image Laboratory, Graphic Art and Design, the Studio of Conception and Design, the Animation Studio, the Plastic Arts Laboratory, and the Aesthetics Institute, which are equipped with a Digital Audio and Video Frequency Collecting and Editing System, a Digital Image Photographing and Post-Editing System, and an Animation Digital 3-D Moving Position Capturing System, etc., valued closely at 10 million Yuan in total. These facilities are open to graduate students.    

 

Master of Management in Industrial Management

This program is a university-level key discipline. It takes as its foundation the basic theories and frontier topics in management, focuses on functional managements, including fundamental management theories, financial management, human resources management, and marketing, and researches and explores the theory and practice of modern  management. It places an emphasis on management practice in printing and related industries so that graduate students understand the theoretical research trends and frontier topics in their study field, acquire the capacity of proficiently applying industrial management theories, techniques and skills, and are able to research, diagnose, analyze and solve problems in industrial development in terms of management.

The Master of Management in Industrial Management trains high-level application-oriented professionals who lay down a solid foundation in industrial management theory, acquire proficient expertise in industrial management, and enable themselves to do various types of industrial management work. With the initial enrollment of 2007, there are three research orientations: Management Theory and Financial Management, Human Resources Management, and Marketing. There are six full professors, ten associate professors, and 16 faculty members with doctoral degrees or working towards doctoral degrees. Among them are a Leading Talent of the National Press and Publishing Industry, (Name), a Leading Talent of the Beijing Municipal Press and Publishing Industry, two Beijing Municipal Innovative Eminent Talents, (Names), two Beijing Municipal Outstanding Talents, and a Beijng Municipal Excellent Teaching Team, which was awarded the honor ¡°Capital Education Vanguards Collective¡± in 2009.

In recent years, the advisory professors have completed more than ten high-level research projects included in the National Social Science Planning Program, and the Social Science Key and General Programs of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, published more than 30 academic works and textbooks, and won an Excellent Achievement Award of the National Education Ministry Higher Learning Institutions Scientific Research. In addition, there is a course, honored as Beijing Municipal High Quality Course, and three textbooks designated as Beijing Municipal High Quality Textbooks. With the emphasis on graduate training quality, this program has fostered long-term internship bases with numerous prestigious publishing companies including the Higher Education Press, the Mechanical Industry Press, the Gold Shield Press, the China Commerce Ltd., and the Beijing China Alliance Ltd., which has laid down a good foundation for training application-oriented management professionals. There are several laboratories, namely a situational imitation laboratory for industrial and commercial management, a virtual laboratory for information management, an e-business laboratory, a financial and an accounting virtual laboratory, and a rich resource of professional books in management. These are all open to graduate students.

 

Master of Material Physics and Chemistry

As a Beijing Municipality key discipline, this program relies on the Beijing Municipality key laboratory¡ªthe Printing and Packaging Material and Technology Laboratory, which regards as its basis the basic theories and professional knowledge related to material physics and chemistry. It takes as its main research orientations the required functional material and technologies in media and communication and related industries, focusing its research on optical functional material, information functional material, photoelectric material, display and recording material, organic and inorganic compound membranes made of plasma and related technologies, environmental-protecting packaging material and recycling technology, new-type print colorization and print-bearing material and related technologies.

The Master of Material Physics and Chemistry trains mainly high-level technological professionals, who solidly and systematically master the basic theories and professional knowledge in material physics and chemistry, understand the present situation and developmental trends of their field of study and in related industries, proficiently apply the basic theories, fundamental skills and testing techniques in material physics and chemistry, so as to enable themselves to research, to analyze and to solve engineering-applied problems.

Following its initial enrollment in 1999, there are now four research orientations: Plasma Science and Application, Information Recording Material and Application, Environmental-Protecting Packaging Material and Technology, and Printing Material and Technology. At present, there are 10 full professors, 11 associate professors, and 12 faculty members who hold doctoral degrees.

The MMPC has first-class facilities for graduate teaching and research. At the Public Testing Center of Printing and Packaging Material Laboratory are electronic microscopes, atomic force microscopes, liquid chromatographs, mass spectrographs,various types of spectrophotometers, DSC¡¯s, TC¡¯s, and rheometers, all serving as devices for analyzing and testing material properties. These four research concentrations also have their own unique testing devices and experimental facilities for special purposes. In addition, open to graduate students are the University-Level Printing Technology Key Laboratory, the Beijing Municipal Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center¡ªthe Comprehensive Training Center for Printing Engineering, and all the laboratories of the Experimental Center for Packaging Engineering.     

 

Master of Engineering in Mechanical and Electronic Engineering (Mechatronic Engineering)

This program is a university key discipline, taking as its foundation the basic theory and professional knowledge in mechanics, electronics, information technology, and control technology, and concentrating on its main research orientations--design, manufacturing, and control technology in printing machinery, and related industries, highlighting research in high-speed machinery (especially printing presses) detection and breakdown diagnosis, advanced manufacturing technology, printing process automation, printing press design and manufacturing technology.

We train high-level technological professionals who master the solid and systematic theories and professional knowledge in mechatronic engineering science, familiarize themselves with the present industry and developmental trends of its discipline and related industries, proficiently command the application of the basic theories and skills, and testing techniques of mechatronic engineering, and develop the ability to engage in research in relevant disciplines, to analyze, and to solve engineering applied problems.

With its enrollment beginning in 2007, the Master of Engineering in Mechatronic Engineering now has four research orientations: Mechatronic Engineering, Printing Machinery Detection and Fault Diagnosis, Advanced Manufacturing Technology, and Printing and Packaging Machinery Design. There are seven full professors, six associate professors, and five faculty members with doctoral degrees.

As for graduate teaching and research, the program relies on the university laboratory, the Printing Machine Laboratory, with its total facilities amounting to more than eight million RMB. The laboratory has a vibration and noise testing system produced by Bruel and Kjaer Co., Ltd. of Denmark, a non-contact laser micro-displacement produced by Micro-Epsilon Precision Measurement Co, Ltd. of Germany; a spectral densimeter made by Xrite Co. Ltd. of the USA; a feeder of Mabeg, an offset press, a Virtual Prototyping System ADAMS, a shaftless system of Rexroth and other advanced equipment. All this equipment comprises the research platform of the printing mechanical property testing and printing machine detecting and fault diagnosis.

Upon graduation, all the first batch of ME graduates in this program  began to work in backbone machinery-manufacturing enterprises in Beijing.

 

Master of Engineering in Signal and Information Processing

This program is a key discipline of the Beijing Municipality, taking as its foundation the basic theory and professional knowledge of signal and information processing, regarding as its main orientation the signal detection and information processing for digital printing and publishing and related industries, and highlighting the research on image acquisition and processing, color management, printing image screening, 3D image display and processing, signal detection technique in printing devices and non-electronic signal detection technique, high-speed and high-precision signal acquisition system, real-time signal processing, intelligent control theory and techniques, digital information collection and storage, sharing and publishing, content retrieval and knowledge discovery, digital copyright protection, and digital watermark theory and techniques.

The Master of Engineering in Signal and Information Processing program trains high-level technological professionals who have solidly and systematically mastered the basic theory and professional knowledge in signal and information processing, familiarized themselves with the present situation and developmental trends of its discipline and related industries, and proficiently applied the basic theories and skills and information techniques in signal and information processing so that they can engage in research, analysis, and solution of engineering applied problems.

With the initial enrollment of 2007, the program now has three main research orientations: Digital Image Processing, Signal Detection and Processing Technology, and Digital Asset Management. There are seven full professors and eight associate professors, and ten faculty members with doctorate degrees. As for graduate teaching and research, it mainly relies on the university key laboratory¡ªthe Signal and Information Processing. There is a complete set of generating and analyzing instruments in this lab, including a logical analyzer, a frequency spectrum analyzer, an arbitrary waveform generator, a RF signal generator, a computer visual processing platform, a printing image defects analysis system, and a digital sample typing device, etc. These research orientations also have testing devices and experimental equipment with their own characteristics respectively, all open to graduate students.

 

Master of Publishing (Professional Degree)

This program is among the first national batch of professional master programs approved by the Education Ministry in 2010. It centers around the needs of the publishing industry, orients itself with practical applications, and emphasizes professional requirements as its main purpose. It relies on Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, making full use of the highly-recognized level of education within the BIGC national level editing and publishing characteristics and the Beijing Municipal editing and publishing brand specialties. The program makes good use of the Beijing Municipality Research Base for the Publishing Industry and Culture, the Beijing Municipal Communication Key Discipline, and other rich resources of many press and publishing organizationsin the national capital. It closely follows up the discipline frontier and developmental trends of the publishing industry, taking as its core the improvements on the comprehensive qualities and applied abilities of its students, so as to train application-oriented high-level publishing professionals. There are three training orientations: Editing and Publishing, Publishing Industry and Management, and Cross-Media and Digital Publishing Technology, along with a strong force of both full-time and adjunct advisory professors, who form a rational discipline and knowledge structure. These faculty members have rich experiences in both teaching and practice, with over 46% who have doctoral degrees. Also among the instructors are President Nie Zhenning of the China Publishing Group Ltd., President Hao Zhenxing of the China Journalism and Publishing Academy, and Vice President Tian Shengli of the China Editing Society as well as other prestigious professionals from the publishing industry.

This professional master¡¯s degree program in publishing has first-class research facilities worth several million RMB,including a digital publishing system, an audio and video frequency collecting system, and an information processing system, as well as a rich resource of professional materials in both Chinese and foreign languages, and characteristic-resource databanks. This program fosters long-term collaborations with 19 publishing companies in terms of teaching, research and professional training. These collaborators include the China Publishing Group Ltd., the Higher Education Press, the Electronic Industry Press, and the Mechanical Industry Press. All these provide graduate students with out-of-school internships, research platforms and teaching sites.

 

Master of Arts in Art and Design (Professional Degree)

Approved and established in 2010, this program integrates itself with the cultural and creative industry of the national capital, takes as its main research orientations¡ªnew media arts, graphic design art, and painting art, highlights the characteristics of the combination of art with the cultural creative industry, emphasizes professional practice, while paying attention to the cultivation of art theories and the improvement of artistic calibers. It trains high-level application-oriented art professionals who acquire a practical original spirit and a systematic professional knowledge, understand the present situation and development trends in their study field, and enable themselves to .engage in professional work and research in related fields. With the initial enrollment of 2011, there are now five full professors and 17 associate professors.

As for graduate teaching and research, the MAD relies on the Beijing Municipal Key Discipline¡ªDesign and Art Studies, the Beijing Municipal Key Construction Discipline¡ªthe Research Center for Digital Media Arts, the Multimedia Art and Design Laboratory, the Graphic Design Laboratory, the Digital Image Laboratory, the Digital Painting Laboratory, the Plastic Arts Laboratory, the Graphic Art and Design Laboratory, the Animation Laboratory and the Aesthetics Institute. These units are equipped with a digital audio and video collecting and editing system, a digital image photographing and post-editing system, an animation digital 3-D dynamic capture system, and a digital painting hand-drawing screen. All these facilities are valued at approximately 30 million RMB and are open to all graduate students. At present, there are a National-Level Teaching Team and a Beijing Municipal Academic Innovative Team.
